WR Hatfield Elementary Namesake
Written By Cindy Champan
A Texas native, WR “Roy” Hatfield was an NISD employee for nearly twenty years. Over the course of his 17 years as Northwest High School principal, Mr. Hatfield had high standards for academics and was known to take on multiple roles such as teacher, bus driver, counselor, and more. An avid golfer, he started the golf program at NHS. In 1979, he was promoted to the position of Assistant Superintendent where he served until his unexpected death in 1981. In November of 1998, Hatfield Elementary was officially dedicated to honoring his unwavering contribution to NISD. The Hatfield family legacy lives on as both his children (graduates of NISD), earned teaching credentials and two of his three grandchildren graduated from Northwest High School. His daughter-in-law, DeAnne Hatfield, serves as a current NISD school board member.
