J. Lyndal Hughes’s career in public education spanned over 40 years as an educator and an administrator in Texas. In 1949, just as Roanoke, Rhome, Justin, and Haslet came together to form NISD, Mr. Hughes was recognized for his dedication to student success in education and was appointed as the very first superintendent for the district. Even after his retirement, he continued to mold young minds by substitute teaching for another 17 years. Hughes Elementary was named in 2005 just 3 years before Mr. Hughes’s death in 2008 where he lived to be 101 years old.
