As Roanoke opens up as a whole, the restaurant, business owners, and developers are very harmonious with each other. The uplifting attitude of one another’s success is unparalleled. While this is unusual to find in competing businesses, the product is the incredible vison of Oak Street that we all get to enjoy. From end-to-end, the vision for the City of Roanoke is coming to fruition. We have our +20-year-old staples like Classic Café and Babe’s Chicken House on the north end and now anticipation grows for what is to come on the south end.
Mayor of Roanoke “Scooter” Gierisch shares “Roanoke has been blessed to have a council and staff that has worked very well together.” The City of Roanoke began the design and redevelopment in 2004/2005, working with Gateway Planning, property owners and local businesses.
We know the amazing 50,000 square foot full-blown Peabody Hotel will be joining us soon, complete with 308 rooms, conference center, its own 5 story-parking garage, and of course the ducks! The iconic “Back to the Future” City Hall has a target completion date of October 16th, and we welcome with open arms the new FREE 416 spot parking garage on south Oak Street.
Now, on to more new stuff…
Pronounced “level up”, this will be the very first of its kind with at least 20 locations planned, and Roanoke is proud to be its inaugural location’s home! What to expect? How does a family entertainment downstairs and a 21-and-up bar and restaurant upstairs sound? The founders of LVL Up are true visionaries and have thought of everything! This 63,000 square foot facility will become a staple stop for singles and families. Let’s take a tour…
The Upstairs Atmosphere-
This 21-and-up area of LVL UP is designed to be a separate adult area full of fun, while keeping parents in mind. Don’t worry, rugrats can be viewed through the glass as they play games downstairs. Adults can enjoy a quieter atmosphere apart from the playing children. The 21-and-up area will have several games for guests to enjoy, such as Shuffleboard and Duckpin Bowling. Yes, Duckpin, a different type of bowling game primary found in the Northeast. John Delin, owner of Integrity Group comments, “Duckpin bowling is so fun and an absolute ball!”
In this sleek and clean industrial-warehouse design, corporate party rooms will be available. Specialty drinks and a full bar will be found upstairs. To top it all off, a catwalk leads to a DJ booth on the second story looking over everything, ensuring a supreme entertainment experience.
The Downstairs Atmosphere-
Kid and family friendly. You will find video games, traditional bowling, laser tag, and clip and climb. Some new games featured are Walltopia and Hyper bowling; this will be the only facility in Texas to have Hyper Bowling. Every inch on the floor and in the air will have amazing entertainment to enjoy. Parents will be able to see from upstairs and have the ability to load their child’s player’s card from their phone. Group events, birthday parties and corporate packages will be available for booking.
The Restaurant Atmosphere-
Outdoor seating will be available including an upscale area that romantically faces City Hall. Upstairs will also have a collapsible window that will open up to a second story patio. A New-American style cuisine will be served in both entrée and sharable dish options. No hotdogs and pizza here folks. Jack Layman, food and beverage director for LVL UP and owner of Bayou Jacks and Jack & Grill shares “all the beef will be Wagyu, Wagyu steaks, ground Wagyu for the sliders and other dishes.” Other unique dishes to expect are Chicken Lollipops and Crispy Seabass Sliders.
What will LVL UP add to this area and the City of Roanoke? Laymancomments,“Making it just an all-day experience [when people come]in the City of Roanoke.” While is not doubt the locals will fall in love, the Mayor shares “This will also attract people to Roanoke that have never experience the Unique Dinning Capital.”
Gentleman take note, Anniversaries and Valentine’s Day just got easier! Founded in 1947, Kilwins Chocolates Franchise Inc. is headquartered in Petoskey, Michigan and will be joining us on Oak Street. Kilwins manufactures and distributes high quality chocolates, fudge, and other confections, all along with premium ice cream. They are one of the few chocolate companies that makes their chocolate from scratch. Kilwins is best known for their fudge, just one of their 70-year-old recipes.
Kilwins Chocolatiers will be found in the 4-story building next to LVL UP. The first story will consist of all retail, also including Grand Salon. The 2nd, 3rdand 4thfloors will be luxury multi-family units- finished out by Integrated Realtors.
Across the street is a 2-story building with restaurant space on the bottom and Class Boffice space above. Anchoring one corner is a 3,100 square foot pad, designed by RGA architects and the new home of the “So Fresh” Los Compadres. Another soon-to-be Oak Street favorite founded by Jack Layman and Jose Mendes.
Los Compadres has a planned scratch and “daily fresh’’ kitchen with a Tex-Mex style cuisine. This means that absolutely everything is made fresh daily- the salsa, the drink mixes, everything.
Margaritas will be the best in town, made with fresh squeezed ingredient. They are already thinking of the moms in town. Something unique, Los Compadres will offer a tequila and whiskey bar. Some unique aspects will be specialty infused tequilas, including pineapple and jalapeno. No fountain drinks will be served- only canned or bottle beers and sodas with several Mexican import beers on the menu.
This restaurant has a planned “cozy feel”, with warm woods and a welcoming atmosphere. An open scratch kitchen concept will be included along with a covered patio with drop down curtain for the ability to heat and cool. Los Compadres stated, “We want to marry the really good Tex-Mex cuisine and delicious drinks, so both can be enjoyed in a family friendly place”. Layman and Mendes brought on AlexDavilla as the new kitchen manager, who has been in the Tex-Mex restaurant business since 1979 and has history working with Mar Cosina and Baja.
Davilla shared “You can expect to enjoy street tacos, ribeye steaks and your favorite Tex-Mex staples.” One planned lunch dish you’re sure to enjoy is a grilled chicken breast topped with sautéed spinach and goat cheese. Customers can enjoy tableside guacamole and desserts. Davilla promises “Top-of-the-line from beginning to the end.” You can expect family-friendly, fresh Tex-Mex spring of 2019.
